The first time I saw a rug from the Queen Mary I fell in love and I wanted to get one ever since. The patterns are just so wonderful!
This beauty came from a 2nd Class cabin. It is really interesting to see the wear patterns on the carpet, because the edges are plush and thick almost brand new, but the center is pretty worn and getting thread-bare. This is because in the cabin the beds were on either side of the room and then the center was clear for walking, and the wear patterns clearly show it.
It really is a fantastic pattern, so incredibly Art Deco.
The markings underneath are very difficult to read, so I’ve added stamps to help identify the letters and number. On top it reads “QM” and on the bottom it says “D109.”
Next time you are looking through archival photos for Queen Mary I suggest taking time to note the carpets and patterns. They really are wonderful. I do hope I can come across more carpets from the Queen Mary because they are so lovely.
